Michael Redpath is in to his
fourth year
serving Downtown Toms River (the Toms River Business Improvement
District (TRBID)) as its executive director. He had
started with the District on a short-term basis as
its interim executive in order to help it
transition between directors.
Redpath has been on the New Jersey and
Ocean County economic development and tourism
scene since being stationed at Navy Lakehurst as a
public affairs specialist in the late sixties.
After release from the Navy, Redpath formed a
consulting company that served organizations as
diverse as the Marine Trades Association of New
Jersey, New Jersey Amusement Association, New
Jersey Offshore Powerboat Racing Association, and
the ACORA community service organization in
Atlantic City.
Most recently, Redpath served nearly six
years as Director of Public Affairs for the
Borough of Seaside Heights, where he carried out
many of the functions of a BID before being
involved in the creation of that town’s BID. He
left Seaside Heights in late 2000 to form Redpath
and Associates LLC, a firm that consults with
communities and community organizations.
The TRBID was established by township
ordinance in late 2002 and began functioning
formally in July 2003. A business improvement
district is a tool for revitalizing a specific
business area within a community. Through the
municipality, the businesses in that defined area
levy an assessment on themselves to support a
professional organization to manage the area's
economic revitalization and health. The TRBID is
bordered by the Toms River, the Garden State
Parkway, Hooper Avenue, and the south side of
Route 37. TRBID activities include many Downtown
Toms River Events, including Cruisin’, a popular
chili and salsa festival and the New Jersey Ice
Cream Festival. More information
regarding the BID and its activities can be
obtained by calling 732-341-8738 or visiting the BID’s web site at http://www.downtowntomsriver.com/.
Redpath is on the Board of Directors and
Executive Committee of the Monmouth-Ocean
Development Council and co-chairs that groups
Cultural and Tourism Committee. He is also on the
Board of Directors and Executive Committee of Downtown New Jersey. Redpath has also been a participant and
presenter for a number of Downtown New Jersey's
Downtown Business Advisory Teams, including the
one that surveyed downtown Toms River. He chaired
the Program Committee for the New Jersey
Governor's Conference on Tourism in 2003, 2004,
and 2005. Redpath has taught the Certificate in
Customer Service course in Ocean County College’s
Community Education Division for two years.
Michael Redpath, Chief Inspiration
Officer of Redpath and Associates LLC, has more
than 30 years of experience managing non-profit
organizations and working within communities for
the purpose of tourism and economic development.
He is known for his intense focus on excellence in
customer service.
He has served as chief operating officer of
organizations as diverse as the New Jersey
Amusement Association, New Jersey Offshore
Powerboat Racing Association, Atlantic City's
ACORA business organization, and the New Jersey
Travel and Resort Association. He served three
terms as a member of the Governor of New Jersey's
Travel and Tourism Advisory Council and is in his
second term as a member of the Ocean County New
Jersey Tourist Advisory Council.
Redpath has overseen the production of such
major events as the Hennessey and Benihana
offshore powerboat races in Point Pleasant Beach;
and the Trump Castle World Championships of
Offshore Powerboat Racing and Beach Fest in
Atlantic City. Redpath's service as a Director of
Marketing at the Trump Castle (now Marina) Casino
gave him responsibility for significant community
involvement coupled with an operation dedicated to
a constant focus on customer service excellence.
Redpath's public relations and mass
communications expertise includes representing the
state's amusement industry following the tragic
Great Adventure fire, conducting a successful
statewide gaming referendum, and bringing MTV's
summer-long broadcast production to Seaside
Heights in 1998 and 2002.
He left the position of Director of Public
Affairs (marketing) for the Borough of Seaside
Heights, after nearly six years in that position,
to develop Redpath and Associates. Seaside Heights
experienced a major improvement in image and
tourism success under Redpath's direction. His
work in Seaside Heights was recognized in 1996
with a Quality Award from the Jersey Shore Quality
Council and in 1999 with a Monmouth Ocean
Development Council Silver Gull Award.
His knowledge and experience has led to his
conducting customer service, creative problem
solving, and supervision seminars for Ocean County
College's corporate clients and teaching the
school's certificate programs in customer service,
including a specialized certificate program for
the tourism industry. He also trains corporate
clients such as McGraw Hill, Swiss fragrance and
flavor manufacturer Firmenich, and Educational
Testing Services in marketing and creative problem
solving for Mercer County Community
College.
