At its Aug. 21, 2007 meeting, the Spring
Lake Borough Council adopted an ordinance
creating the Spring Lake Business Improvement
District. That action followed work begun in
January by Redpath and Associates and the Spring
Lake Managed Business District Steering
Committee.
Spring
Lake’s Managed Business
District Steering Committee, appointed by Mayor
and Council, met nearly every week since Feb.
21, 2007. With the facilitation of Michael
Redpath, of Redpath and Associates, the Steering
Committee diligently researched and evaluated
proven means for ensuring the sustainability of Spring Lake’s
businesses.
The Committee’s work included field trips
to other communities, interviews with business
district leadership throughout New Jersey, the
study of managed business district principles,
and a survey of Spring Lake’s business
community. Based on this research, the Committee
then modeled various means for ensuring that Spring Lake
will have a viable business community well into
the future while preserving the integrity of the
town’s unique nature.
At its first Board meeting Oct. 3, the
Spring Lake Business Development Corporation,
managing corporation for the Spring Lake
Business Improvement District, appointed Michael
Redpath Interim Executive Director.
It is anticipated that Redpath will remain in
that position until August 2008 when the first
annual meeting of the Development Corporation
takes place.
